Every day at noon, a tiny sun symbol appeared on the old tree stump. The Garden Detectives called it the Sun Club secret. The mark was bright, but it had no paint, chalk, or cut lines. At one o’clock, the symbol vanished.
Gus checked the stump and found a smooth patch in the bark. Pip looked up and saw a gap in the leaves. Dot found a small round mirror hanging in the nearby shrub. The mirror belonged to the garden craft club, but no one had put it there.
Sam traced a thin strand from the mirror to a bent branch. When the wind pushed the branch, the strand tipped the mirror. At noon, the mirror caught the sun and sent a bright circle through the leaf gap. A flower-shaped gap in a paper tag made the circle look like a sun.
Meg found that the tag had blown from the craft tent and stuck to the branch. No one had planned the secret symbol. Wind, light, a mirror, and a paper tag had built the clue together. The team left the safe display in place and made a sign explaining it.
At the next noon, children met by the stump for lunch. The accidental Sun Club was now a real club.

What really happened?
Sunlight reflected from a mirror and passed through a flower-shaped paper opening. Wind had arranged the parts by accident.

Ask the learner to point to the sentence that proves each answer. If decoding is effortful, reread one paragraph at a time. A fluent second reading is more valuable than rushing to the next story.
