Consonant + LE word family

-ble Words

/bษ™l/ โ€” words that share the -ble pattern

In words such as table and bubble, the final le is a whole syllable on its own, pronounced /bษ™l/. This is called a final stable syllable: the e is always silent, and the consonant before le joins it to form the last syllable.

How the -ble family works

Keep the ending -ble together, then add or change the beginning sound. Read through the whole word from left to right instead of guessing from its first letter.

1Read the ending-ble /bษ™l/
2Add the beginningta + -ble
