Phonics game

Short Vowel Sorting Game

Hear the word, then sort it by the middle sound.

This game trains the ear first. Children listen to one short-vowel word at a time and sort the sound into the correct vowel group before moving into reading practice.

How to play

  1. Press Listen to the word.
  2. Drag or tap the sound token into the matching vowel group.
  3. Check the feedback, then move to the next word.

Listening first

Train the ear before reading longer text

Word Builder asks children to spell the word. This tool asks a different question: which short vowel did you hear? That makes it a strong next step for vowel discrimination.
